Compositor. Dedica-se à composicao audiovisual, à musica eletroacustica, à musica contemporanea instrumental/vocal. Tem obras apresentadas no Brasil e no exterior. Coordenou concertos da Bienal de Musica Brasileira Contemporanea (Rio de Janeiro). Ganhou menção honrosa no CIME PRIX 2021 por sua música Litosfera de 2019, lançada no CD Beat Studies 2022; o 2º lugar no Concurso de Composição de Bourges, França (2015), 1º no 1º Concurso de Composição do IVL (2008), obra selecionada para o Concurso de Composição Presque Rien/Luc Ferrari (2015, França), Menção Honrosa no Concurso de Composição Almeida Prado (2004), finalista do Concurso de Composição IBEU (2007). Os dois Estudos em Miniatura fizeram parte da trilha sonora do longa metragem Rio em Chamas (2014. Direção: Daniel Caetano, Vinicius Reis et al ) É professor associado 1 de composição eletroacústica e instrumental/vocal do Instituto Villa-Lobos, da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, UNIRIO. Atuou como coordenador dos bacharelados do IVL e coordenador da pós-graduação do PPGM - UNIRIO. Hoje é o diretor do Instituto Villa-Lobos.
Como interprete, atuou como guitarrista e violonista durante 15 anos. Tem realizado a difusao eletroacustica e preparacão de suportes eletrônicos nos trabalhos da compositora Jocy de Oliveira desde 2010 (Revisitando Stravinsky, Berio Sem Censura, Solo).
Em sua tese de doutoramento desenvolveu a pesquisa Vídeo-Música, orientado pela profa. Dra. Carole Gubernikoff, e co-orientacão do prof. Dr. Rodolfo Caesar.
Marcelo is a composer and professor of music at Rio de Janeiro State Federal University (UNIRIO), teaching mostly electroacoustic music composition, music technology, and history of electroacoustic music. Have been working with electroacoustic music (major composing activity), audiovisual composition (vídeo- música), dance music, and also chamber music. His works have been presented in Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Chile, Ireland, South Korea, Germany, Lithuania. Some of his works were recorded in different CDs. Won a honorable mention at CIME PRIX 2021 with his work Litosfera (2019), recently released in his CD Beat Studies (2022). Won the 2nd prize at Bourges Composition Conteste (France - 2015), 1st Villa-Lobos composers competition (2008), received a honored mention at Almeida Prado Prize (2004), finalist of IBEU Contest (2007), selected work for the Presque Rien/Luc Ferrari Composition Contest (France) and has been selected for many festivals in Brazil and around the world.
As a researcher, his majors subjects are the hybridization possibilities in the field of electroacoustic music composition and electronica, and electroacoustic music and video, focusing not only on the technical aspects, but mostly on the sociopolitical and ideological aspects of those fields of production, and the social commitments of the composer today.
Have been working with the composer Jocy de Oliveira since 2010 as part of the Ensemble Jocy de Oliveira. His job is to prepare the electronics and make all the sound diffusion of her operas.
As a guitar player he worked with Brazilian Guitar Orchestra, conducted by Aloysio Neves, and many other chamber and jazz groups.
Also worked for 5 years composing for the Sylvio Dufrayer’s dance company, presenting works all over the world (Italy, Argentina, Germany, Lithuania). He acted as coordinator of undergraduate courses at Instituto Villa-Lobos, UNIRIO and at the post-graduation music program from that university.
